Hello Readers,

According to an announcement dated March 30th 2017 in Quebec Gazette, Quebec Skilled worker program is all set to open anytime soon and will be accepting 5000 new applications on first come first serve basis.

Applicants will have to apply for Quebec Selection Certificate from here, before applying for Permanent Residency status in Canada. The candidates will be assessed based on number of factors and the intake will be completed before March 31st 2018, exact dates announcement should follow soon.

Candidates will have to sign up for the online application portal Mon projet Québecrequiring them to enter civil status, work history, education history, family and any visits to province before. Quebec Skilled program is similar to Express entry system, where the candidates are awarded points based on their area of training, work experience, age, language proficiency, any province relationship, previous visits, human capital factors and so on. Candidates have to score above a certain level to receive nominations. A job offer although is not required but it does carry additional points. Similarly candidates with TEF scores and knowledge of French may be awarded points.

It should be noted that recently the Quebec Govt. made some changes to the points system. At the preliminary threshold, the minimum point score required has risen from 42 points to 43 points for a single applicant, and from 50 points to 52 points for a couple. The second and final threshold is now 50 points for a single applicant (up from 49), and 59 points for a couple (up from 57).

Points for various factors have also been tweaked, which makes it exciting for potential candidates to apply for the program.

important:  Individuals in either of the following situations are not subject to the cap and may submit an application for a CSQ at any time:

  • The applicant has a validated employment offer from an employer in Quebec and is eligible to submit an application for a CSQ; or
  • The applicant is a temporary resident in Quebec and is eligible to submit an application for a CSQ.

So, this is the right time if you are looking to apply for QSWP, it’s still time to apply to get CSQ and apply for the program as soon as it opens. We are sure this is a highly anticipated program and these 5,000 slots will not last long.
