So, you are filling up the express entry application and just opened the form to notice that it is asking for First Name and your Last name printed exactly on the passport issued to you by your country of residence.
Just like every time, you noticed that your name on passport does not have a “Last Name”
This is a dilemma currently being faced by many express entry candidates and this is something you should not be messing up with.
The most important thing here is that names on your documents should match to your passport name else there is a high percentage chance that the CIC will not accept it. However your Last Name has a solution as mentioned on the CIC Website.
What do you mean by surname?
Your surname is your family name. It is sometimes called your “last name.” If your name is spelled differently on your official documents, please write your name as shown in your passport. When filling out applications, type your surname as it appears on your passport, travel or identity document or any letters you got from the visa office or case processing centre where you sent your application (even if the name is misspelled). Do not use initials.
If you do not have a family name on your passport, travel or identity document, enter all your given name(s) in the surname field and leave the given name field blank. Do not enter “*”, “Not applicable” or “NA”.
This answers your question that what you should fill up in your last name field. Make sure you don’t mess it up.
